Default Thanks

Thanks for all the info that is on this forum. I have a 99 Ram 1500 with nearly 180K on its 5.2. I bought this truck in Tuscaloosa Al in August of 10, and have put about 25k on it. I am a travelling Pipefitter by trade and I travel all over the US. On that trip she started surging on cruise control and thats when I first found this site. Alittle research on here and determined to be the TPS. $35.00 and less than an hour and she hasn't missed since. I have all the usual things wrong with it, the dash and all that. I have just completed a drive from the Houston Tx area to Ponca City Ok and averaged 17.6 MPG using the old fashioned mathmatical computations. This was mostly on cruise about 2-3 miles over the speed limit with the air on.

When I completed this job, I plan on having the plenum repaired, and the waterpump, timing chain, Dist. Cap, rotor, coil, O2 Sensor replaced. She runs great, idles like a dream and only alittle smoke on start up. I replaced the plugs a while back and broke one of the small vacuum lines that works the vents. I have tried several things to hold it together but finally settled on some heat shrink tubing and that works great and looks good to. Anyways, thanks to everyone who has posted on here, it makes it easier for a shadetree to get some help. And BTW, while I was at home wating on my Hair Follicle Drug Test to come back, I read about 230 pages back to kill some time.. Good Stuff.

Welcome!
Glad to see you've done your research!
You keep the truck up and it will serve you well.

On behalf of the ones on this forum that actually offer good advice, unlike myself , you're welcome!

Oh and I nearly forgot, thanks to reading on here, I was able to replace the resistor on the blower motor which suddenly started only working on high. I was about to replace the whole blower and that woudn't have solved the problem.

hair follicle drug test? what happened to pee in the bottle?

any of the vacuum lines can be replaced by new rubber vacuum tubing from any parts store. just match the size. it'll hold up better than heat shrink which will collapse under vacuum and might leak.

thanks for that heads up DH! I put 2 layers of the shrink on it, my guess was it might hold up to the heat. If it fails, I will try what you suggest.
