I'll bump this...good reading.

You should never use a strap with hooks, chain, hitch ball or any similar metal attaching point for recovery.

Quick add: I always use nylon lifting straps/slings to attach the recovery strap. Most industrial supply outfits carry them, and a few each in three foot and five or six foot will get you connected to most anything.

man i should watch out then i've always used chains around my hitch ball when pulling some one out...

i don't wanna die yet...
