However it depends because in CT. its all about woman and kids. so just the fact you went passed a school bus would be enough to make the ticket stick. as for the bus stopping before turning the corner... every bus company has certain rules. for instance at the company my wife works for you cant turn right on red ANYTIME. however at the last it was o.k
A half mile doesn't apply when you are 150 feet away from a bus that shows no sign of stopping when the sign pops out. That would be like driving down the road and having the sign holder from a road crew pop out of the bushes and throw up a stop sign when you are at your minimum stopping distance and being expected to stop.

Your distance form the bus when the sign comes out is certainly a valid variable. Check state law regarding lights and/or sign, and if driver is not in compliance, calll driver supervisor. The driver may be putting children at risak. Normally here, the lights come on first as they start [reparing to stop, and sign popsw out after they stop.

Sheriff, I had something similar happen here in MI. I could see a bus with the yellow lights on from 2 miles out on a straight, flat road. I came to a stop, noticed no kids were moving around, and the driver was just sitting there. So sense it was still yellow flashers, I went by them. The bus driver threw her hands up and shook her finger at me. I was annoyed, so I stopped by the bus garage with where and when I saw the bus. The Superintendent told me that what I did was legal, but that the driver did report me for running the red flashers. She forgot to turn the red on!! When I pointed that out, she appologized and everything was all good. Even good people who are good at their jobs still make small mistakes. If you were to get pulled over for it, call the super, be polite and nice with them and the bus driver, and you can get it worked out.

In the case of someone being the last one to run a red light because he was tailgating to close to see the red light. You can't say to a judge that you didn't mean to do something illegal because you were busy doing something illegal. If you follow at the safe distance, you will see the red light. But with the bus driver, it was probably a substitute who almost missed a stop or was confused.

I know down here bus drivers have certain spots they are required to stop at and that is given to them buy someone sitting in a office and not always the best points for bus stops, there technically required to call in any change in route including going into reverse.

I would have pulled the whole it wasn't safe to stop card.....and if all school buses are equal the yellows should have been on before it even stopped then the reds flash before the signs come out so it goes back to faulty equipment

Default my wife also bus driver

They can and will give you a ticket if the driver is not honest. They would be the one to report it and if you cannot prove yourself they will make you fight the ticket and you ARE GUILTY TIL PROVEN INNOCENT even though law says different they will usually take the word of bus driver unless you have witnesses to prove your innocence. Bus driver will know if u had time and will not report you if they are honest.
