Junk Yard trip
My 2000 had the same problem when I bought it. The switch is broken most likely. I had to get the harness for inside because its part of the switches. I know you don't want to here this, but I saw at least 5 trucks with the overhead console just hanging there ready for the taking. Some with the read out and some with just the lights and cubby. I'll go next saturday and see whats left. Which do you have, Regular or with the read outs?
I have the read out overhead. The passenger side map light works though, it is just the drivers side.
If you can get the overhead for 30 bucks or less, i will pay you a 5 dollar finders fee plus shipping. I am in no hurry, because I am moving in a couple weeks. But if you see something worth taking this sat while you are there, I will paypal you and just hold onto it until i figure out an address.
Sorry it took so long, forgot I had this question!!!

Are you in the service? The last time i checked on a map, I think Shreveport was nowhere near Polk, but i could be wrong. However, there may be other bases in LA that are not army.
About my career, my Branch Manager told me that it was probably not a good move because I would be "out of the fight" for three years. That is hogwash because I have served 27 months total in some of the worst parts of Baghdad Iraq (Sadr City, Yusufiyah, Mahmudiyah). And over half those months I was a platoon leader out pounding sand, so I still have working knowledge and lessons learned. Besides, as a MAJ in the army, I would just be missing sitting in the TOC thinking I am more important than I actually am. Plus, being yelled at by the Battalion commander, and spending sleepless nights coming up with plans that the BN Commander would not approve and make me redo.
The good part is that I need a masters degree to be a teacher, which I am finishing up here in the next two weeks. It always looks good to have that. But it is nothing that will shoot me to Genereal at light speed.
if I make General I would need to retrace my steps and backtrack to make sure I didn't sell my soul to the devil to get there!

I am an E-3 in the Air Force, stationed at Barksdale AFB, as an Ammo troop. Being at a Bomber base (B-52's) makes for a slow ops tempo, but even worse than that, we are the HQ of the newest Command in the AF, the Global Strike Command. These two put together means exercises on a monthly basis, and leadership that constantly puts their own agenda over the morale of the troops. We are constantly dog & pony showing because the people who make decisions have nothing better to do.
I know that everything I have just described may be normal stuff for the military, but it's intensely amplified here.
