Default Mother's Day - it is different this year.

Mother’s Day has always been a very happy day, with travel to my grandparents’ home when I was a child, and more recently, driving to Muenster to visit my Mother at the nursing home. Last year, with mixed emotion, I missed a community event which the Crisis Center sponsors, so I could visit Mom on Mother’s Day. Although it was difficult sometimes to see Mom suffering and in a nursing home environment, I knew that she enjoyed the visits, and my discomfort was nothing compared to her joy.

For several years prior to going to a nursing home, and during her stay there, my sister Patti shouldered much of the challenge of taking care of Mom. And for that, I am truly grateful to Patti. She was there when the rest of could not be there. I have learned over the last couple of years since my disabled father-in-law came to live with us some of the challenges involved in caring for an aging parent with declining health. Thank you, Patti for all that you did for Mom and for us.

This year, Mother’s Day is not so joyful. Last year was Mom’s last Mother’s Day. She was 79 years odl when we lost her in June last year. This Mother’s Day is different. It is more about missing Mom than visiting Mom.

I have several very close friends and co-workers, who like me, lost their Mothers this past year. I believe they are feeling much as I am today.

To all the members here that are mothers, Happy Mother’s Day!

To those of you whose mothers are still with you, make sure you tell them that you love them. Make sure they know how much you appreciate everything they have done for you. Make every day like Mother’s Day for them. I will always treasure the memories of Mom, the photos, the laughter, the tears. I love you, Mom.

Very good read. I was raised by both my mom and my grandmother. My father wasnt in the picture. My grandmother was like a second mom. Our family lost her a few years ago. Basically, what I am saying is I know what your saying and how you feel.

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms.
