i think i would try the cheap way first since you will probably want to replace all the stock fuel lines anyway. 3/8" fuel line should slide right over the stock 5/16" line.
metal line is cheap enough i would just replace it. if your really worried about rust you could maybe see about buying the line with special coating on it. i bought some not too long ago and there was less than $5 difference between the normal steel line and the stuff with the coating on it.
Im not so much worried about rust cause these lines are from the factory. Money is tight cause im trying to get a new vehicle. Ill probably end up just doing regular metal lines
The 2000 will hopefully be goin to the old lady. And im looking at a cummins... but im not tryna drive 3 hours to Virginia just to not like it... still trying to figure that out
