you can get the 99 hd steering for around $380. you have to buy each part individually though. it does not come as an assembly like the 08.5 stuff and it costs more buying individually vs buying the complete assembly which also goes for the 08.5 steering. you can go to the website I posted above and its around $275 + shipping to get the 08.5 assembly.

*edit* just verified with the cumminsforum guys and they said you don't need to ream the sockets or anything to get the new steering to fit. worst you will have to do is cut or grind the stud on the the rod end down to clear 16" wheels which is not a big deal at all to do.

stock 16" steel wheels it will hit, stock 16" aluminum wheels it will clear by 1/8"

that stud is pretty long and the top where you shave is not threaded so shaving 1/2 of the non-threaded end off wont hurt your ability to securely bolt it down.

And that applies to the early 2nd gen's too? I am not worried about the wheels clearing, I have aftermarket 16's with less backspacing.

I started out with Chinese stuff (comes as a set) off ebay, reused my Drag link adjusting sleeve and had to buy a Moog TRE for the pitman arm becase the older tre is a different taper.

I know everyone will want to rip on the Chinese e bay prods but they are greasable and look just like Moogs..and are worlds better then the non greasable low end crap your local discount auto parts store sells.

Best yet, I have about 2 bills in the whole front, including a set of urethane boots I had to buy to replace the crappy replacements (and the even crappier Dorman ones I used). Everything is still tight and when the parts do wear, I'll replace them with better stuff.

Oh...I used my old 3 inch RC track bar bracket and reworked it into the clamp for my steering stabilizer.

Ok according to this: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98...ml#post4236226

the taper is the same, but the older 2nd gen axles are not as wide as the newer (2000-2002) 2nd gen axles, so the joints will fit the sockets, but the tie rod and drag link are just too long to fit the axle on the older trucks...

So that being said, you can either shorten them as needed, or you can probably still go with the 98-99 HD steering...

there will be no reaming required as the tapers are the same on ALL 2500-3500 2nd gens. just the 2000-present have wider front axles than the 94-99's did...

here's part numbers for the '98-'99 1 ton HD steering:
DS1459 Draglink
DS1456 Right Hand Connecting Tie Rod End
ES2012S Adjusting Sleeve
ES3496 Left Hand Outer End
ES3497 Tie Rod at Pitman Arm
ES3498S Adjusting Sleeve

you can find them on that parts site in my first post.

the 98-99 HD steering should fit all 99 and older 2nd gens, the 08.5+ steering should fit all 2000 and later second and 3rd gens.

Jigabop I can't find it with those part numbers... However I found the whole setup here.

If I need to spend that much for it, I would rather just do this.

yeah, that woulda sucked for sure! the steering style is basically the same between the 98-99HD and the 08.5+ both T-style steering instead of the Y-style steering that comes stock on 2nd gens. the Y-style is prone to issues with toe alignment and death wobble. the T-style directly links both front wheels together eliminating the toe issue and reducing the possibility of death wobble. (it can still happen if the track bar or ball joints are shot though)

yeah, I've seen those, but didn't want to spend $500 on it.

and LOL @ the second pic on thurens site...thuren steering with a DT Pro Fab track bar standing out like a sore thumb!

I have that same track bar works great and its cheaper than thurens. better designed too I think since they use a relocation bracket and no bends in the bar.
