intake mods
welll my truck needs the plenum fix and while i have it apart i would like to do plugs wires and and a cap, i know a guy with these parts all are new mopar oem, and hes got a modifyed keger and what he calls a ported throtle body for a 5.2 or 5.9 i have a 5.2 should i even mess around with the modifyed stuff? whould it be any noticeable proformance? oh and i can see the brown oil just by looking down the throtle body with a drop light... sound like the plenum to you? btw trucks a 94 with 66k and the #8 plug is black
I installed mine early last fall. NO problems at all. I checked plenum yesterday as I was draining my catch can, and it is still clean and dry.
I used the fel pro gasket. I would suspect that gasket failure itself may be possible. The plate itself is just an aluminum plate. If it is flat I see no way it could be responsible for failure when installed correctly.

It'd be kind of difficult to believe that a laser cut good quality piece of aluminum would be the cause, not much can go wrong with it. Improper torquing, bad quality gasket, things of that nature is much more likely.

Iv done several lower intake gaskets over the years. As I worked automotive for 10, till I switched. Anyway, iv had good luck with felpro replacing gaskets. Iv left the stock bolts, and tin plate often also, never having one come back. Iv done my old 2000 ram 5.9 at 120 k, and it now has 290 k. Original bolts, tin and all ? I know upgrading is better, but when you pick 9 pm to get it done, it limits shopping. Lol
As for the modded keger intake, iv done this to my 5.2 Dakota. Hacked out the 92 center plate, unplugged the EGR, and knife edged the runners just 3/4 inch shorter. Port matched and I For sure noticed quicker response instantly. At hwy speed it woke up some. 2500 up it is a real gain you notice. It will not turn it into a drag machine, but I for sure noticed the gain. No noticeable low end loss for what I did, and no measurable milage change. BUT I had the exhaust, headers, rockers, electric fans all done prior to the intake mod. I try to do only one modification at a time, and drive it a few hundred k to just to see what iv gained, or lost. I like knowing the real world gains. In short I'd go with the modded keger again with the updated plates and new bolts. A noticeable gain, and no more gasket failure is a win win ?
