my 91 is no better. i think dodge started using crappier paint long before they made your truck. paint on hood and roof peeled off on my 91 but the fenders and a lot of the other paint was fine.

The paint is fine (well, it won't be fine for long now for sure). It's the clearcoat that is just peeling of like sunburned skin...lol

Clear coat and paint was all modified in the mid 80's. Add to that that the efforts in technology included finding ways to reduce the amount therefore the thickness of such (saving tons of $ in the process) and you have lees protection for the finish.

I know with my truck the clear on the hood and roof peeled off about a year ago. The body itself though seems ok

Unfortunately, this has been an issue as long as paint has been put to metal. Manufacturers only need the paint to last as long as the warranty period. After that, they'll be more than happy to take that vehicle back in trade at a loss for a new one.

I do the same as Hammer. The red on these trucks looks like crap if you don't stay on it.

Yeah, I'm fighting the same issue on my Z, just not to the extent of this. It's like in the last week or so it just decided to shed. Maybe it's molting for winter...haha

All the clear coat on my hood, slide off with a sheet of ice last winter, and its flaking off fenders and roof in spots as well. I've come to realize I'm not worried what it looks like as long as it is running in tip top shape.
