I read that they are a permanent replacement unlike the rubber ones. My brother's truck (91 S-10 with a 2.5) needs new freeze plugs and the only way to do it is to try these or pull the motor....again. Thanks.

Yes I used those before, long time ago. I would sure try them before pulling the motor, clean the orfice well and use some sealant like the article the other gent mentioned. Good luck!

 

I've used 'em. Never bothered with sealant, just cleaned up the hole with some emery cloth and stuffed the expansion plug in there.

 

Thanks for the replies. He put a bunch of the rubber type expandable freeze plugs in a month or 2 ago (after I told him not to) and now they're all leaking even after tightening them. I'll give these a try. Any of them that I can put a normal freeze plug in I will. I'll have to pull the trans again but that's a lot faster than yanking the engine .
