Default o/d engagement speed

hey, i have a 98 ram ss/t, i noticed when im lightly accelerating my truck (keeping it under 2k rpm) will engage o/d at 40mph. it just seems like it engages to early. its shifted like that since i bought it and ive been around this truck since the previous owner bought it and it has always shifted like that. i know there is nothing wrong i would just prefer if it held 3rd gear longer to build up more speed before shifting to od. truck has 3.55 rear gears and 285/60/18 tires (measure 30.5 inches tall).engine and tranny are stock. what could help with this? different gears? tuner? shift kit? this isnt a problem i would just prefer if 3rd gear was held longer, i know i can control when od engages with the switch but i would rather not have to. opinions?

Tightening the TV cable 1/4in will help, but I wouldn't recommend it because it made mine a tad more harsh. But then, mine shifted harsh sometimes anyway.

An SCT tuner I think pushes OD out a little bit and holds 3rd longer.

i dont think i'll mess with the tv cable, it shifts fine and i dont have to mash the pedal to shift out of od, 1/3-1/2 throttle is all it needs to shift. tranny shifts good just grabs od to soon in my opinion. sct tuner is definately on the list of mods.

The sct will def help. I just got one to replace my superchips tuner and there's a big difference. If your on the throttle, it'll hold 3rd until around 50 mph

Yep the with the SCT on mine driving like a grandma it will hold 3rd until around 45 or 47 but only in the 89 or 93 tune. If you leave it on the 87 tune it will shift into od around 40.
