Default Work Trucks

Work trucks.
I was reading the forum posts tonight and the topic of work truck took
me back a few years. It began in high school with a C10 pu supported by
the second shift at the local cotton mill. I fast forward in my thoughts
to the completion of my Navy term, when I purchased a new one,
(bright red 250 straight six GMC PU). It took several years and a few loads
to determine it was a bit under powered, so off "in search of", I went.
I found her, a Carolina Blue 66 D100 1/2 ton step side with a rattle can
paint job for the outrageous price of $400. It could haul though, and it
had to be the ugliest truck I'd ever owned. I was single and hell bent on
construction work, so dating was not much of an issue just as long as the
girl had the car. I lucked up and sealed a deal to clean out old engine
blocks from a next door neighbor with a rebuild shop.

All in all, that $400 netted me $1,900 and had sown the seeds for that proverbial quest of,
"the secondary income stream".

I went through several work trucks while feeding this new habbit of side
work. There was the 67 F100 351 V8 (Twin I-Beam, bad idea), a newer V6 D100 more for the
fuel mileage and dependability, and last but not least the 49 Chevy 1.5 ton dump to build the
last Carolina home.

I consider the diesel and the 98, (that I took back) work trucks. I realize
I don't quite know what to do with the 97, since the wife has not relocated
her antiques up from N.C. yet, so I'm enjoying it on the weekends. I'm also helping a long time friend
with his business utilizing the 3/4 tons. I post this for the good memories, the lessons and the sense
of purpose I get by sticking close to my roots (and don't mean geography).

I want to thank all you guys for putting up with me. I'll add specifics on my trucks when I figure out,
how to permanently put it in the bottom of the sig (I suck at computers).

I'm also trying to learn about suspensions, transmissions and about everything else involved with a
"Prime mover". K.
