Wow...Did I Just find a Great Deal?
Ive been looking for a donor truck to do a swap on my 1500 with. Ill be basically doing a 2500/cummins conversion. I found a truck that is an 2001 cummins that had been wrecked and I mean severely. There is blood on both driver and passenger side, air bags deployed, dash practically gone, and the driver side of the truck is basically gone. It looks like it got ripped off about to the inside of the battery compartment and all the electronics back to about the fuse box are destroyed. However, its a manual and a cummins. Engine looks good and dash (gauges and stuff) looks fine. Should be very simple...right? Oh, and the front axle I think has been snapped off because its not there on the driver side. I have a friend whos dad runs a scrapyard so I could trade the rest of the truck that I don't use for an axle.
As of now, they are asking less than 1000. Trucks like this one go to the scrapyard, but I find treasure in it. Its odometer exempt, but with a manual tranny and cummins that can make 1million miles, Im not too worried. A great deal can offset a little extra work.
Im still looking for other trucks in case I find one that has quite a bit of after market stuff like rims, CAI, fuel system upgrade, etc. Most of the trucks that are decent like the ones that are just body damage are still 2-3k and I don't get anything more out of them that I need. All I am looking for is the motor, tranny, transfer, axles, PCM, wiring harness, and gauges which can be had in a single truck for next to nothing compared to parting it out individually. I just want to know if paying 500-1000 is to much for a truck that had its axle ripped off.
