With that being said the truck is 15 years old and more likely than not the cat is fairly clogged and the truck is beginning to bog down on me at times.
What year is your truck and what part of NC do you live in? They have emissions inspections where I'm at for 96 and up vehicles. They don't sniff the tailpipe, they just plug into the computer to scan for codes. Prior to 96 is just a visual inspection and you have to have all factory installed emissions equipment to pass. You may find a place that will "let you slide" without a cat, but they are doing so at the risk of having there status as an official inspection station revoked.

Your taking a chance then because w/o a cat, it will throw a code for O2 sensor unless you do the fouler trick, and hope they dont actually look under the truck to "visually verify" the converter is installed.

I've thought about getting one of these.

Yes they will pass with the fouler trick. I've seen them do it before. I've never seen that before. Would a exhaust shop install that or would they say no since it's not really a cat.

I like how they worded that to protect themselves, but still get at what it's really for. "It may result in a significant gain in horsepower and may prevent your car from passing emissions."

If you have access to a welder I got a noisy exhaust ticket and just welded a pipe inside of my gutted pipe looks factory and won't hurt performance.

Thats what I was thinking about doing before but I still have the issue of not having a welder.

If you got the piece of pipe and the cat off I'd take it to a welding shop I can't imagine they would charge much of anything and then you can clamp it in or know any buddies with a welder? You'd be surprise what an ice cold six pack can get ya.
