Hello,
I have a 96 Ram 1500 V6 3.9L 2WD Automatic basic truck with 80,000 miles.
I haven't had any leakage in the short time I've had the truck.
The truck has had the catalytic converter removed. I'd like to fix it before it has problems unless its not likely to have problems. I use the truck in very light duty. Basically just driving in a semi rural area, a 100 miles a week.
Its new to me and I have read a lot of plenum threads and haven't seen anything about 6 cylinder plenum failures.

Are the 6 cyl engines immune to the plenum failure problem?

Are they less likely to become a problem?

Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a plenum repair kit for a 6cyl. engine?

The truck runs good, but prevention is the best medicine. Or getting rid of it?

The v6 engine isn't immune to plenum issues, their plenum goes out too. I can't say if it's less likely or not, I don't own a v6 RAM. Probably about the same likelihood, I would imagine. Hughe's Engines makes a plenum kit for the v6 and v8 engines.

 

I appreciate your response. I'm wondering if since the catalytic converter was removed by the one owner before me, if they haven't already ran into this problem before and fixed it already. That and the throttle body was spotless when I purchased it.
I guess it's time for the magnet on a stick test.
