Do the limited slip rears really go about 100,000 miles? My truck isn't an ORE, but I do have a limited slip rear, Truck has 190,000 on it. Far as I know, it's never been worked on. Looked fine when I had the differential fluid changed less than 1000 miles ago.

I have the factory LSD in my '98 4x4... 176K+ and no sign of LSD issues.
Everything looked fine when I changed the oil at 100K.
Of recent there is a more noticeable axle whine, but I wouldn't put that down to the LSD... in fact I'm probably lucky that it has been as quiet as it was for all those years.

 

Meanwhile, I pulled a broken retainer clip out of mine at 130k, and the LSD in my truck doesn't seem to function at all.

Everything else looks fantastic- all gears looked good, no noise, etc. Plenty of fine power in the oil when I drained it though, so I'd probably say that 100k is a good benchmark to rebuild at.

Mine's also a 2wd... Wonder if that has anything to do with it? No front axle to provide power to the pavement- it all has to go through the rear, so maybe there's more wear and tear on the rear LSD?

 

Well, 4x4 trucks aren't in 4x4 all the time. Most of the time all the power is going to the rear anyway. Don't know why yours went out when it did.

 

The rear ends aren't common problems on 2nd gens. But 3rd gens have a horrible rep for broken C clips and grenading rear ends. I have 175k on my LSD no probs. I change the oil and inspect every two years.

 

Well guys, sorry I havn't been around much. Got super crazy busy. Don't worry though, I was still doing stuff to my truck, and it has changed quite a bit since my last update. Here are some pictures that show what all I have done.

These Pictures were while I was rebuilding my Dana/Spicer Trac Lok No slip rear end. I have the 4.10 gear ratio as well. As you can see mine was pretty fried





The Next Project I did was Building a rear Headache Rack to hold some CREE Industries LED lights, they are crazy bright and work sweet for backing up, plowing, or just using them as utility lights.




Next I added some Decals to dress up the outside a little more. You can see the Harley Davidson inspired one i added to my windshield thoughout the pictures. My Real pride and joy is the custom tail stripe I added. I came up with the idea and design myself, and I have a cousin that owns and operates a sweet decal/graphics/design shop here in town called Digital Ink, He has done work for alot of famous motorsports racers such as Tucker Hibbert.




Then along the way I stripped off the silly nerf bars and Added some new tires. I went Bigger and Wider. They are Toyo Open Country A/T


Next Came headlight Restoration. My headlights leaked moisture bad from poor sealing, and were oxydised yellow worse than a Green Bay Packers helmet...EEK! So I used a Professional Malco Headlight Restoration kit to restore the lenses to a like new crystal clear. Since I had my headlights out I decided to bake them, and separate the lenses, so I could re seal them back together. While they were apart I painted the bezels black, I really Like it, it adds a nice appearance and they look smoked from an angle or a distance. You will also notice from the pictures that i Finally got a Tonneau Cover. I went with a Access Roll up.


And Lastly my current project. I am working on a Custom Rear Center Counsel for my truck that will also doube as subwoofer Box for a 10" Subwoofer. I think it will add a nice custom touch to the interior along with conceal the subwoofer.

What size tires are you running?

 

285/75/17 I believe on tire size. I had a buddy buy the same size for his silverado. He got the new BFGoodrich All Terrain TA KO2 and mine seemed to run a touch taller and wider.

 

Nice work COL! The cleanliness gives me chills. BFG brand runs under true size while Toyo runs true size.
