Default Kickback Style Mudflaps

I know a lot of people aren't fond of mudflaps but I figured I'd post up a couple shots of what I've been working on recently. Lifted style flaps cost ridiculous amounts of money at $200 a pair (not to mention are just universal fit), so I figured I'd make some custom ones. For those that don't know, lifted style flaps have a "kick back" to them where they incorperate a Z-bend to offset the mudflap further from the tire to increase clearance. Without this Z-bend the tire would contact a regular flap and tear it off.

I made these out of 18ga stainless sheet, bedlined with dupli-color truck bed coating and used all stainless hardware to avoid any rust / corrosion as winters are bad here. Working with the stainless sheet was a PITA from start to finish but well worth it in the end. All said and done, 4 flaps cost me right around $100 in materials and I've got extra sheet and rubber left over. Very happy with how they turned out

Had one hell of a time making the bends, even with Princess Auto's manliest brake. Plan was to buy, use and return as a new, unused item. I returned it as a POS because I had to clamp a 1" steel bar to the bending plate to eliminate flex and increase the moment of inertia. Why it didn't come with some sort of gusset on the bending plate is beyond me. The stupid thing would bend to 20 degrees, bow in the middle and tuck under the sheet without this setup. Pretty goofy looking but it worked great and I needed to keep the brake in original form.
