How the heck is gears going to make a hum above 40 MPH? That is just crazy talk. Talk with Randy's and they will take care of you. Depending on the gears you choose will depend on the noise they do or don't make.

Yah, I'm sure I would have heard about it here on the forum if it was a common effect of aftermarket gears.
This guy has about 30 years experience rebuilding transmissions and rearends. I've known him ten years and trust him. Think the hum must have legitimately happened to him on 1 or 2 occasions. He says using non chysler sets will have a slight hum, due to the alloy. Maybe he had a bad set of gears or they weren't adjusted perfectly.

I got a quote, $850 for the rear and $750 front at my local 4x4 shop. Gonna call Randy's too and get a quote. These guys at Bayview 4x4 in Silverdale do a lot of gear swaps. Gonna go ahead and regear the rearend only and remove front driveline and drive it as 2x4 for a while make sure I'm happy with it.

Beeker,
I understand, maybe the customer didn't want to spring for the better sets. There are cheaper gear sets that are noisy. I'm no expert by any stretch of the sort. I have only ever done one Dodge so far so until I do my truck I don't have any thing to go off of. Now I have done tons of Jeeps and a good many Fords but only because I use to work at a Ford dealership. Good luck when you get it done and I'm sure you will like the add pickup.

I got the rear gears installed 2 weeks ago, they removed the front drive axle making it 2x4 while I decide whether or not to do the front too. I really like having the rpms higher. Went ahead and did the front on Thursday. They used gear sets by Nitro, there is no noise or hum at all. Very happy with the swap. Don't notice any difference in acceleration from a stop but having the revs 350 higher seems to help a little on the hills at 60mph. Rpm at 60mph is 1900, 65mph is 2100, 70mph is 2200

I did 4.10s. Bayview 4x4 in Silverdale, WA. They do tons of gear swaps and are very fast. Cost me $950 for the rear and $850 for the front. They did U-joints and a hub as well. Pretty impressed with this shop's speed and skills.
They had it done at 2pm after dropping it in the morning.

Ramman18, The gear calculator you directed me to was accurate. Thanks!
