Default What I found in my AC Evaporator core...

Did the dreaded heater core and evaporator core this weekend and my AC evap core was about 70% blocked with mud. Guess the dirt that comes thru the vent turns to mud when it hits the wet evaporator. I'm going to put some filters in the vent intake.

I ordered a Cab Fresh vent filter from Genos Garage, only place that I could find it. Was $65 shipped. Glad to have a little filtration to keep that junk out of my new cores!

Wow, took the whole box out--congrats. What brands did you get to replace the cores? I also saw those vents on Genos, only thing available for our trucks. I replaced my blower motor earlier this year and found that pretty dirty.

Any tips or tricks to doing this job? Haven't seen a thread on it in a long time. There's a thread in the Tech section about the heater core "gurgling" and it may help the OP.

I bought the cores from O'Reilly auto parts, whatever was cheapest. Hope there's no issues with it. Are some better than others? I was thinking of doing a writeup on how to remove the cores since there's no good ones around.

What kind did you get? They make a few styes. I got mine from Napa(oem style copper/brass) and it lasted a bit over a year and then green liquid running out the lower vents. JUNK! The heat sucked to because there wasn't as many runners as the oem. Second one was all aluminum and it's still in there and working fine.

The heater core was all alluminum from O'Reilly, MHT 94466 (Murray Heat Transfer) $60. I noticed nearly immediate warm air from my cold engine, didn't realize how poorly the old one was performing until the change out. Probably blocked up pretty bad. The new one has same quantity of runners as original.

The Evap core was all aluminum also from O'Reilly as well Murray MRY 54166, $65.
