I replaced the discentegrated dash in my truck with one from LMT a few years back. In the process, a few of the screws through the top of the dash stripped out, leaving the top of the dash floating around. This has allowed my dash to flex a bit (I had 2 tight screws, and 3 loose ones), and finally started to develop a tiny crack at the center screw, which is the tightest and thus the flex point. Noticing this, I decided i had to get those other 3 screws tight.

The screws are supposed to thread into plastic clips, which cracked over time and lost their ability to hold the screws tight. I tried to find adequate replacements for the clips when i did the dash, but couldn't find anything that would work.

I finally figured out a fix today, and thought i'd share, as i assume many other folks would have a similar issue.

I grabbed some old dry-wall anchors


and slid them into the hole in the plastic clip with some needle nose pliers.


Then wedged the dash town into place


And tightened everything up


I ended up puling the front of the dash down about 3/4 inch.

 

I believe there was a thread on the subject before but not sure if it had a place to get them.

 

The ones i used were in a spare parts can in my garage. I think they are basically the cheapo mounts that can be found at any hardware store. I had some heavier duty ones, but they weren't soft enough to actually slip down into the hole in the dash the way i needed them to.
