Default 1st Gen bed on a 2nd gen cab and chasis.

I put this question on 1st Gen form maybe I could get help on the subject there as well, my 90 bed is in descent shape but my 2nd (2001) bed is beyond fixing. The '90 is a regular cab with a 8 foot bed and the '01 is a quad cab with an 8 foot bed. Could I put the '90 bed on the '01? Idc about looks just need it to be legal. The '90 is going to be taken off the road due to electrical problems so once I get the wiring fixed the bed is going back on until I get a 2nd or 3 gen bed for '01. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

A bed has nothing to do with legal as long as there are taillights and brakelights mounted somewhere. Beds get removed all the time. If it swaps over and you can wire up the lights, why not?

well actually legally in most places you also usually require mudflaps if you were to ditch the stock bed and go with a flatbed or no bed but it is not like it is that hard to install. beds usually cut the spray to an acceptable level as far as the law is concerned. i am pretty sure the frames are completely different but best way to find out is just slide under the back and measure the distance between the bolt holes

Yes, I thought about mentioning wheel guards but he's swapping on a full bed, just different year so it was moot.
