Transmission vibration
I have a 94 dodge ram 2500 with a 360 (5.9L) automatic transmission 2 wheel drive. The transmission went out and I had a jasper transmission installed. When I got the truck back it had a vibration, almost like a miss fire but it wasn't misfiring. The vibration can be felt at an Idle and while acceleration. I was really bad at first, but I took it on the highway and jumped on it and it got better but it's still there. The mechanic didn't want to replace it because he said Jasper wasn't going to pay him for the R+R if they didn't find anything wrong with the first one. But he wasn't able to find anything else to blame. He said he was going to replace it with another one (not sure if he did or not), but I still have the same vibration. The truck has all the power it had before but now it has a vibration. Has anyone run into anything like this?
You didnt do the work, but was the crank sensor removed before removing the trans? I would be best to decide if its trans or engine related because the troubleshooting paths look way different. If you're able to jack the rear axle up and shake the driveline to check for loose components. Being a 2wd makes things easier as the transfer case variable is removed. I wouldn't bet against a bad jasper transmission
The vibration is even when in park idling, I was a mechanic so I can tell if it's a miss fire or just a vibration. At first when I got the truck back it was so bad that i thought that maybe the timing chain jumped a tooth. But after I replaced the O2 sensor that the shop broke while doing the transmission, all the power came back but the vibration was still there. I took it on the highway and jumped on it a few times and the vibration got better. I wish I would have marked the transmission before bringing it back. Now not sure if he replaced it like he said he did or not. Trans seems to work okay but I have that shake (vibration) that seems to get better as it heats up.
I had the dampener off as i did the timing chain and didn't see anything wrong with it. The vibration was sooo bad at first that it felt like 2 cyl were misfiring, I even though the timing chain jumped a tooth.
If it is vibrating at idle in park then the odds of it being a transmission issue are almost zero. The only thing related to the transmission that could cause that would be a torque converter that is out of balance. If I were you I would replace the the harmonic balancer just for good measure. They are cheap and relatively easy to replace so start with that.
Also the balancer is not a zero balance on the 360 Magnum. It is an externally balanced engine. So make sure you get one for the 5.9.

It may be, but it seems the more miles I put on this transmission the less it vibrates. Like it's getting better the more miles I put on it. The truck ran perfect before the transmission replacement, so the balancer going out of balance I wouldn't think would continue to get better with time. But like you said they're cheap and easy to replace. That may be something to try.
