Default Regretting the 180 thermostat

Finally did my plenum (APS). One lower intake gasket was blown, (intake had a broken bolt) but not the belly pan gasket, it was still in-tact.
Put in the 180 t-stat and now my heat is not hot enough. Oh well, won't be needing the heat too much more this season, will probably change it out before next winter.

Mine was the same way. Learned to live with it this winter, may change it back to 190-195 myself, see if performance (SCT) gets hurt at all.

Sounds like you may want to flush your heatercore and check to see if anything improves. I think HeyYou has posted a few times how he does it, so he'd be the guy to ask. I'd give it a shot, it will only cost you some time.

I take it you are running the stock clutch fan . I have E fans and i just set them to come on at a warmer temp in the winter and it works great . But 180 in the winter with the clutch fan spinning makes for a cold truck .

Yeah, I think having an e-fan is the key. True, I spent half my winter in Florida and the other half in south Georgia, but we had a crazy cold winter (for the deep south at least). Night-time temps in the 20s and even upper teens were not uncommon in Georgia and even hit the low 20s in central Florida a time or two.

My heat was as hot as when I had the stock t-stat in my truck, but like Pacmanloads stated, it doesn't even begin to spin until the truck temp hits where I set it, which is about 7-8 degrees before my t-stat opens...

I may consider e-fan(s). What are the gains? .5-1.0 mpg more and a few extra horses Right?

Probably a bit better than that around town, more like 1-1.5 mpg. Obviously no real gains on the interstate where rpms are up and the clutch fan isn't nearly as parasitic as it is at low rpms.

I saw an '05 Hemi RCSB 4x2 at KRC a couple of years back that got run before and after an e-fan and it gained about 14 RWHP...

What I really like about the E-fans . Is in the morning when I'm getting ready to head out , I use my remote start and by the time I get outside it's already blowing warm air . Before the E Fans it was at least 10 mins before it was even close to getting warm . That was worth the efans alone to me , but the freed up horses and gas mileage doesn't hurt either . So far this has been the best $250 I have spent on my truck .
Seems to me they have gone up in price a bit but are well worth it and were very easy to install . Here is the set up I bought off ebay in case anyone is interested .

Seems like a good set up, but what's the life expectancy of the e-fans when they get covered in mud, snow, water, ice, repeatedly, compared to the regular fan?? Thats kinda the reason I'm still torn about the e-fans. I mean they say they're water proof, but i may go a few days after a good mud session, to spread dirt all around town, and I've seen mud all the way to the underside of the hood.

I read something somewhere about the mid 90's ford taurus and lincoln mark Vll's, i wanna say, having the best fans for offroading, used by the crawlers and extreme off-roaders.

Otherwise, I'd love to have quicker warm-ups, and your low teen temps in the winter lol. It's 10-20 sometimes here too, but they're negative numbers. not to mention with the wind...brrr. So glad it's nearly over. 60's for this weekend. Think I'll get something done.
