I have a 97 1500 4x4 5.9 360 gas. Out of the blue this morning the battery was dead. Jumped the truck off, would not run without giving it gas(pushing down on the throttle). Let off gas, it dies, try to start immediatly after, fires for a second, then nothing. I put in a spare Optima red top, it turns over fine but still will not keep running. Any help would be much appreciated.

 

mine did the same thing and it turned out that the battery was just that dead and after changing it it ran fine..i also replaced my alt. just to be safe

 

someone switched you over to carburation in the night.


jk. mine did that...idle air control motor. $30 or something, all better.

This happened to a girl at my school: she left her lights on and her battery went dead...the onl whay her truck would start and stay idleing was if she would give it gas....so i hooked her truck up to my ram adn let it carge while i found the 2 throttle looking cables on the left side by the intake manifold....i fiddled around with those for a minute and eventually they where normal ( I think they where stuck closed) Then her truck has been running fine ever sincee.
