I have a 2000 Dodge 2500 4x4 and have had it for about a year and a half now. I am getting 4mpg in the city and 8-10 on the highway! Is this comparable to anyone elses? No codes, I have 295/75R16 and a4.10 gear ratio.
Do you experience pinging? What about oil usage? Sorry to say this guys, but 4 mpg in the city?? There's bigger fish to fry than checking tire pressures.

hahahaha

Only things I can think of that will destroy mpg that bad is slipping tranny/clutch, plenum gasket or dragging brakes (or parking brake set).

Dood ... settle down ... I wasn't trying to diss you. I was just trying to advance the point that 4 mpg is the lowest mileage I have EVER heard of on this forum. He's got something wrong with that thing and should probably fix it. Relax ...

I know this really sucks, Im going to have to sell it, the gas is more than the car payment. It is a 360 gas, brakes are all fine. A few things going against me is a gigantic deercatcher from Ranchhand (front bumper replacement with grilleguard) and rear bumper replacement, and heavy duty headache rack, rails, and toolbox. I don't know know, but that should be pushing minimum 1000 lbs pretty easy. They had to install the grilleguard with a forklift. Im still working on a pic. I am having tranny problems. It seems as if the pressure is too low. When I stop at a light, most of the time it will let go of the gear and when I get back on the gas it acts like its in neutral for a sec or two then slams into gear. Also at 60-70mph it occasionally wanderers from its usual 2200 rpm to 2400 or so and back and forth. I took it to AAMCO and they said I needed to get my spool valves cleaned up. Have yall experienced something like this? I gotta say it, dodge makes some great engines but their auto tranny's are trash

4mpg is not very good at all but he does have 9 inches of total lift. Not to mention 35 inch tires. That's a lot of resistance and mass to start pushing around town. Idon'tthink he should be getting 4mpg but It's probably not that farof the mark.

4 mpg "not being very good" is a major understatement. That's about what a fully armored Humvee gets.

The transmission trouble sounds like low pump pressure. Might be as simple as a filter change.

I had a similar issue back around 30k miles. It happened at idle and especially when cruise control was on. The RPM's went up down all-around; at idle it wanted to stay after every rev. Spents ton's of money at the dodge dealer replacing everything. Got pissed and went to a no-name garage. The guys fixed for $40. The guys said I had massive carbon buildup. He used OMC engine tuner. Go buy a can for $6 at your local envirude/johnson dealer - better yet, buy two. Run the engine to operating temp, spray the whole can(s) in the TB at a fast idle, then turn off the engine and let it sit for half a day. Then start-er-up, let er-idle until all the white smoke clears (15 minutes) then go for a hell ride on the highway to burn out the carbon and junk. If that doesn't stop the idle flux, then it's got to be a symptom of the 4MPG issue.
