Default EGR Valve on a 97 Dodge Ram 1500?

Does anyone know if there is an EGR valve on a 97 Ram 1500, 5.9lt V8 4x4? I seem to have a few vacuum leaks after I had a "side job" mechanic replaced my heads. My repair manual shows where it should be, but I dont see one anywhere, just a bunch of broken vac lines. My truck idles ok until I give it a little gas and then let off. The RPM's drop way down and sometimes the engine shuts off. The A/C blows through my defrost at high speeds and my gas mileage is poor. Can anyone give me some advice. Thank you.

Unless you have a California version
your 1997 should NOT have an EGR valve,
which on 1992-1995 5.2/5.9 V8s
was located at the very back of the intake manifold.

If I don't have or need an EGR Valve, does anyone know the route of the vacuum hoses that run from my transfer case up towards my engine. I know the grey line hooks up to my cruise control and climate control vacuum lines but where does the green hose go to? Thats the last one I need to hook up.

Hi all,

My '97 is idling rough, but smoothes right out when I throttle up, I went looking for the egr to see if maybe I could diagnose a bad valve or not, only to find I dont have one...( Thanksfor this thread.. my manual dosent specify that Cali models had them.. mine doesnt..) Any Ideas on the rough Idle?? Plugs, wires, distributer cap all new when the headers went on, ( about a year old ) I have owned it for about 18 months now and it has always been a rough idle, thinking it needed plugs wires etc....not the case.. anyone?

For a rough idle, remove and clean your IAC.

If you have a rough idle try cleaning your IAC.

My 1998 Ram 1500 4x4 does the same thing with the air blowing out of defrost vents at high speeds??? No one answered your question, any answers? I would like to know myself?

Do a search for Wild Vents. You'll get plenty of info. Here's one to get you started:
