diff gearing
hey guys i want to do a 6 inch lift and everyone is telling me ill have to regear the rear end or else ill have no bottom end in it .... i have a 95 dodge ram sport thanks all help is appriciated
Well you'll have to regear the front too assuming its a 4wd...
First off find out what gears you have in it now. Go here and type build sheet at the top under reason for contacting. Have your VIN ready.

You'll get an email with all the options your truck has, including stuff like gear ratio.
Next what size tire are you going to run. 35", 36", 37"?
If you have 3.92's which was an option, I say your fine to run 35's. You'll notice it'll dog a bit. You can even run the 36's and 37's on that, but it'll be kinda slow, nothing thats gonna keep you from driving down the highway though.
You don't HAVE to regear, it'll help with power and MPG. Kid I love with ran 35's on 3.07's in his Cherokee with a 6 banger until he swaped axles that have 4.10's in them.
You can buy your lift and tires and get the gears down later when you have more money.
