Just installed Mopar Performance air cleaner
Late last night I installed the Mopar Performance air cleaner on my '99 ram, took about 3 hours. I had to re-bend the s-bolt a couple times to get it right ( no vise in my apartment ) and used a hack saw to cut to length. Plus a neighbor was down in the underground parking and we were shooting the crap for about an hour or so so it took longer than normal.
Drove it today out to the parents house for easter dinner and as mentioned b4 by another poster it does have a noise at normal acceleration. The kind of noise closely resembles a slipping v-belt not tight enough but without the squeak. Once i hammer on the gas it has more of a sound of old school secondaries kicking in on a 4 bbl with an air induction hood system ( nice deep engine sound ). Once the engine cools down a bit Im gonna check the gasket and make sure its seated properly.
Is this the same sound you guys are hearing on your open round air cleaner systems? The sound doesnt go away once the truck warms up, same vaccum leak sound at normal acceleration. I use to flip my air cleaner cover over back in the day to give a gap to allow more air inside the air cleaner housing, that never had a sound like this.....though that gap was probably 1/2" or so where this is totally open.
Let me knwo what sound you guys are hearing so I can see if I have the same sound as you guys with this. If i had a digital camera i'd make a sound file for you to hear but I dont.
Otherwise, Im loving the set-up. Oh, and this is on a stock throttlebody.
thanx guys
