Default need advice on potential 727 swap or current engine problem

i was wondering if anyone has swapped in a 727 onto their truck and what problems or needs would come up. here's my long *** story of the past couple months of complete hell. i just got done with a fairly decent build up on my 96 ram of edelbrock heads, comp cam (264 in/274 ex .512 lift suppose to be computer compatible but im not sold on that), crane rr 1.6's, edelbrock headers, replaced rigged up cat system witha magnaflowwith new sensors, swapped out every sensor from different same year ram to check them, new distributer, wires, plugs,160 thermostat, new alternator since it decided to conveniently go out in this process, ac deleted, but i kept the stock intake and fuel injection and computer the way it was. should be running rediculussly better than the near stock form it used to be but doesn't. can't even power brake it. we know timing is on, we've checked i dont know how many times. ive ran into such a damn headache with this computer crap and cant seem to get it to run right and am about ready to give in to stripping out anything computer related. anytime i fix what was wrong something new pops up. aside from it running beautifully for one test drive when it was just running off the battery when alt. was dead its ran incredibly lackluster for the build up. when coming to a stop it sputters, revs REALLY low, sometimes dies, oil pressure gauge drops low to non existant but i know i have pressure so im not overly concerned on that. now its smoking bad enough to fog up the shop to where you cant see. havn't cracked nothing or blown a gasket. within a week if not fixed im going to look into going carb and ripping out anything i wouldn't need, changing ingnition, etc. other night i ran throuh the gears and checked tranny fluid and smoke started pouring out and smelled like something was burning, not the rich smelling exhaust that keeps magically popping up every time i fix something that ive had such a problem to get rid of. tranny is old as is (180k) and probably going out anyway. getting a vibration in overdrive that goes away when i turn it off. revs are going a little too high before shifting. ive got a 727 lying around out of a 89 ramcharger that im thinking of swapping in. i dont really care about gas mileage or anything like that. just want this thing to run like a raped ape and am getting to the point ill do anything to make it work. any advice on the carb and tranny swap plan or current motor problem would be greatly appreciated.

More bad news ... the trans used in 96+ Dodges were of the RE variety ... as in Electronic. The PCM wants inputs from the tranny and is gonna want to get the 3-4 (OD) shift as well as the TCC lock-up.

All the more reason to carb it up and toss the PCM. Gonna need an old school distributer, too. Ahhhhh ... vacuum advance.

that's what my back up was if it came down to it. toss the pcm in the trash, carb, new ignition, 727. but i would rather salvage the current setup if at all possible for time and not spending a lot more if i don't have to. a few new things to note that i just checked. o2 sensors are looking like they're dead again, not pulling the right resistance off them and its even lower than the ones before that i toasted. and we're thinking it doesn't smell rich like it used to when it smokes because the new cat is cleaning it up a lot more than the last one. my rigged up setup before was i hadthe stock cat gutted with pretty much a see thru cat off a junk vehicle spliced in after it so it was pretty much straight exhaust coming out. when i threw in the new setup it was clean originally for a while. then it'd smoke and run rich for like 10 seconds, then clean, then rich again and get progressively longer until now when there is a huge cloud of smoke pouring out. my new question of the day is why the hell do i keep toasting o2 sensors if they are in fact toast?

Get your PCM flashed, I guarentee thats alot of the problem. It'll take the PCM 100+ miles to learn the new engine and parts, but it'll never be anything like a custom flashed PCM. B&G does them.

A 727 swap would be kinda cool, I dunno if anybody makes an adapter though.

If you do that like siad above the PCM will freak out, so maybe if youg et a custom flash them can remove all the trans BS on the computer.
