Transfer Case Question!
Updated 4/13/07
After Siler_Dodge's post I called my cousin who owns the transmission shop and told him what his mechanic told me I had. He called back and agreed with you guys, It is the NP231. Sorry for the confusion as I could not check it out personally because it was there. He's had a nice talk with his employee about not guessing. I'll now look into a NP1231D model.
For my 2001 Ram 1500 4X4 can I replace the NV241 Transfer Case (The NV241 is essentially a NV231HD with six gears in the planetary set. )
with the NV241D ( The NV241D is a heavier duty Dodge version of the 241, with a larger input shaft and larger bearings to withstand the torque of the V10 and diesel engines. )
or the NV241HD (The NV241HD, an option on Ram 2500's and standard on Ram 3500's built after 1998, has a stronger case and wider drive chain to better withstand the shock of snow plow service, a PTO cover and drive gear, and an extra bearing to support the thrust to the main shaft created by a PTO adapter.)
If I can has anybody does this and does it take major re-work of the mounts and such? Any infor anybody can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks!

RE: Transfer Case Question!
Honestly, i'm impressed that your 1500 has the 241 to begin with. I have the 231HD, and it seems that most 1500's I have seen have either the 231 or the 231HD. I think you can do the swap you want, but you might need to change the input shaft because the number of splines is different.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention as I might have purchased a NP241 series for replacement and ran into issues I was not expecting.
