Default People with HID's chime in

I just installed some HID's on my 01 1500 and for some reason, when I turn on my factory fog lights, the Hi-Beam indicator on the dash lights up. By the way I got the low-beam only HID's so there are no more high beams. Does anybody know why?

perhaps you wired the highbeams to the hids, and the lows are unwired? just guessing.

It's not that because the HID's are on when the low-beams would be and if I flick the high beams, the HID's turn off. The people that I bought the HID's from are trying to tell me that the hi-beam indicator being on when the fog lights are turned on means that the computer is telling me that I have no high-beams.

are you sure you used the correct wires for the low beams . the high beam indercator shold not be coming on unless the highs are on . i have hids in my fog lights and they work fine . i didnt put them in my headlights because i didnt want to loos the high beams . so when i get a set os sport headlights at a good price i will put them in the head lights too.

It's really weird. I know it is wired right because when I flick back the column switch to turn the highs on, the highbeam indicator turns on, but no light. And when I turn just the low-beams on, the high-beam indicator is not on. But when I put my fog-lights on regardless of whether the low-beams are on or off, the highbeam indicator lights up but its dim. When I flick the highbeam switch, it gets brighter.

But if the relay was fried, wouldn't the fog lights not work at all? HID's are twice as bright as halogens, but I've also got different headlight housings so...

depends on how the relay got stuck...but since they work (didn't know they still worked) it's probably not the relay...but don't rule out anything

No the relay is fine. I had a set in my truck for about a month or 2 that i was trying out from my friends car. I had the right wiring, went through many tests to check, and i had the same problem. At times, my highbeams would also come on with my lights when i tried turning on my fog lights. They were also a set that only had the low beam HID. Now i don't know why they did it, but it was fine when i put the stock headlights back in.
Now why i think it may be- I may be wrong, BUT i did a few tests on the wires, and i beleive when the HID's are in, one wire is not being hooked up, so some circuit is not being completed, or possibly being shorted there. I never tried grounding the 3rd wire, but if you did, when you turn the high's on, it would pop the fuse most likely. The only thing i could think of is possibly not having a dedicated ground wire, but perhaps a switching ground. If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know. I thought about trying the hid's out that have high and low.
