NEW dodge owner!
I've always used non-synthetic but will soon be switching over based on my brothers input. He's an engine machinist and by looking at the engine coming in he can tell which brand of oil was used. He is a firm believer in synthetics. I don't remember which brand he uses, but I wil lbe talking to him about it now that my new engine has around 8000 miles on it.
I've used Castrol all my life (well ... after they took Arco Graphite off the market). Used to use 20w50 dino variety but have been using 5w50 Syntec for many years (and miles). Change it when I think it's about time (20 to 25 thousand or so).
Not sure I'd have gone with a blend (retains too much of the dino-downside) but it might be ok to ease into it. A straight synthetic will let you know pretty quick if you've got a lot of wear on the motor.
its been about 2 weeks on the new oil and no leaks(knock on wood).im thinking of getting some spark plugs this week but im not sure if i should buy a TPS first. ill check into which seem to be the best spark plugs for the price. ill keep you guys posted
Congratulations on your new ride. At 138k there are things that are simply goign to be worn out and need replacing. These trucks aren't perfect, but they can be fun to work on if you like that kind of thing. I know I do. I use Mobil1 full synthetic in my 318 and I can tell a difference from the walmart brand supertec castor I used to use. Engine is much smoother and reacts a little better. My gas mileage used to be about 10MPG but I had a clogged cat. I am still waiting to see what my exhaust mods did for milage. That is if I can keep my foot out of it.
i think i also have to replace my cat(or gutt it). i can hear a rattle when as soon as i let go of the gas the exhaust/cat rattles. and im getting **** poor mpg. i think im at about 7-8mpg
oh and its funny you say that about the oil, i had planned after about 2000 miles switching to mobile1
