replacing the plenum/intake gaskets
Well several peoplehave told me now that my oil loss/rattling noise is probably the cause of the plenum/intake gaskets. Well I'm thinking I should bring it in, wondering if anyone knows, if it turns out to be this, how much I should be looking at for this kind of job? Judging by your estimates, I'll get a couple of quotes, including from my local mechanic guy. Thank al
if you are even minimally mechanically inclined you should be able to do this yourself. Only takes a few hours and is a good Saturday project.
If you are not going to replace the stamped plenum with a billet aluminum one here is all the parts you need to do the job.
[ul][*]Intake manifold gasket ( 4 pieces)[*]Small amount of gasket sealer for joints on intake manifold gasket[*]Plenum gasket ( 1 piece )[*]Copper Plus Gasket Sealer for the Plenum Gasket[*]Thermostat gasket[*]Now is a good time to replace your thermostat also since you will already have it apart.[*]16 new fuel injector o-rings.[*]Can of aluminum high heat paint to dress up your cleaned intake manifold.[*]2 gallons antifreeze.[*]Possibly new radiator hoses and heater hoses if you've not replaced them within the last couple years.[/ul]
You will also need to beg, borrow, or steal an inch pound torque wrench to torque the plenum and intake manifold bolts. It is critical that you do this in the sequence recommended and to the amount recommended. Failure to do it that way will probably result in a failed gasket.
Otherwise, I think I've heard others getting by for around $400 for a shop to do this without the hoses or painted manifold. Some shops will even offer upgrading the plenum to a billet aluminum one so you never have the leaky plenum gasket again.

I believe I bought them from Monicatti Chrysler last year when I was building my engine.
