Default Overdrive

What is the difference between running in overdrive or just regular drive? What are the pros and cons.

Unless you are towing just leave it OD, the trans will shift in/out on its own.

I have a 97 ram 5.2 liter and there is a button to turn over drive on and off. Its always off so should I turn it on and leave it on unless im towing? What exactly does it do and what are the bennefits?

Unless towing, leave it in OD because it's easier on the engine, better for gas mileage, etc...
