Default tranny problem

Hi guys,

New to the forum. I just got my first Dodge. A '99 2500 4x4 Diesel w/140k miles and I think the trans is slipping. It only seems to do it on up shifts especally 1-2.The abs and brake lights are on and the speedometer doesnt work until 25 mph. Could there be a relation between these or do I have 3 problems?

The brake, ABS and speedo problem are probably one and the same....not sure why it would start at 25 mph though. does it jump around before or after it kicks in? The signal from the speed sensor (located in the rear diff, accessible from outside on top) failing trips the ABS and brake light. Could be related to shifting as i think the line pressures are changedbased on speed by the computer? could be wrong on that.

At most there is two problems. The ABS/BRAKE light combo is absolutely caused by the RWSS mounted on top of the rear differential. The speedo problem is caused by this, too (it's exactly how mine acted). It >MIGHT< cause the tranny to do odd things as well but that could be a seperate issue. Replace the RWSS and see ...

So is it usually the sensor or a wiring problem? Also what are some common issues with this trans?

It's the sensor.

Common problems with the tranny? You name it ... they all can leave you stranded. Do a search for "transmission" and see what you come up with.
