Default Radio

I have a 98 ram 1500 extended cab that I just bought, the factory radio wire harness plug has been cut out and am needing to know if anyone could tell me what the color codes are to the wiring. Any help would be great. If it matters I dont believe the truck had the infinity system in it.

I have the information for the 96 RAM. I think it should be the same for the 98. If not, it might give you a place to start.

There are (or were in your case) two conectors.

Gray Connector
Pin 1 - Not Used (empty)
Pin 2 - 20 Gauge Brown/Red - Left Front Door Negative
Pin 3 - 20 Gauge Dark Blue/Red - Right Front Door Negative
Pin 4 - 20 Gauge Black/Yellow - Park Lamp switch output
Pin 5 - 22 Gauge Orange - Fused Panel Lamps Dimmer Switch Signal
Pin 6 - 18 Gauge Red/White - Fused Ignition Switch Output (ACC/Run)
Pin 7 - 20 Gauge Pink - Fused Battery Positive

Black Connector
Pin 1 - 22 Gauge Dark Green/Red - Radio 12V Output (Only with Premium Radio - powers relay for Infinity front door speaker amps)
Pin 2 - 20 Gauge Brown/Yellow - Left Rear Speaker Positive
Pin 3 - 20 Gauge Dark Blue/White - Right Rear Speaker Positive
Pin 4 - 20 Gauge Dark Green- Left Front Door Speaker Positive
Pin 5 - 20 Gauge Violet - Right Front Door Speaker Positive
Pin 6 - 20 Gauge Brown/Light Blue- Left Rear Speaker Negative
Pin 7 - 20 Gauge Dark Brown/Orange - Right Rear Speaker Negative

To verify the speaker leads, use a 9 volt battery and touch the wires (very quickly) for the speaker you want to test to the battery terminals. If the speaker moves out then you have the positive lead connected to the positive terminal on the battery and the negative lead connected to the negative lead on the battery. If the speaker moves in, you have the wires reversed.

Hope this helps.
