Im gonna be biased in this post cause well yea i work at best buy lol. If your gonna buy a head unit ide suggest sticking with pioneer. I dont know how much everyone knows about "Satalite radio ready' but all that means is it has the ability to be used as a satalite tuner, but in order to get that signal you need to dump about another hundred bucks for the tuner, basically a small metal box that goes behind the radio that will recieve the signal and put it to your head unit. Another thing to possibly consider instead of sattelite is HD radio. JVC is the only brand so far that has built in HD. HD radio is fantastic lol, free if available in ur area, FM sounds like cd quality and AM sounds like current FM. Other great thing is the particular radio station can choose to broadcast up to 3 signals at once. Aka if you dont wanna listen to a stupid talk show in the morning and that station does it you can switch to the other signal from them and hear music, all freeeee.another nice thing about hd is ifyouron a road trip and you leaveyour current radio stations range, your HD radio will pick up another station in your range thats playing the same music. The JVC unit is the same price as the rest of the units. as far as the installers ill admit not all of them are great. Ask who is going to be doing it and how long theyve been installing radios, we hire alot of new young punks who suck. Some guys are great so just ask befor you do it.
HD radio interests me about as much as getting kicked in the groin. I am sick and tired of listening to the same stupid crap all of the time, so if a station is broadcasting in HD that tells me it's the same format. There was a time, before the corporations swallowed up all of the radio stations, that there was variety in this country. Now, you can't take I-40 across the country without hearing the same crap in every city from state to state.

How is it that the satellite receiver is $100 when Best Buy advertises them for cheap? And not only no, but HELL NO would I let *anyone* from Best Buy install a radio in my truck (or car).

I don't know what "cheap" from best buy is that your talking about , but MOST, almost all radios that are satilite ready still will need an external box. Now first of all, there are a couple, i know Alpine has one, it was one of those 4 posted in the links above, but it is SAT equipped and all you need to do is plug in the antenna. Other than the satilite, its a very basic radio though. I have always loved alpine, but have had pioneer in my truck and boats for about 4 years now and love them. I have xm in my truck and boat, and the xm unit was about 80 buks i think off ebay. When buying the xm and or sirius, i would stick to the manufactuer, say alpine or pioneer, but the box made by them. I had alot of experince with say the terk add ons (50 buks for the tuner, 50 bux for the adapter usually) and have had alot of issues with them, especially in friends trucks that go off roading. Maybe somthing to do with bouncing all around. I dont know.. But anyways, i havn't had a problem yet. I have the pioneer 7700 in my boat, and the 9800bt in my truck. Both really nice radios. And the one in my truck you can also connect to a blue tooth cell phone for it to be handsfree through your car speakers.. just figured id throw that out there. If ya have any questions, feel free to ask, but i also had worked in retail - at circuit city for about 3 years and than at a custom shop for about 2 years and have done all kinds of stuff on the side. The radio's in these dodges are cake to change out. If you have an idea of what your doing, your looking at under a half hour easy, especially witht he harnesses.

Thanks for your input. I haven't had anything to do with E-Gay since 2001. It's a racket and I know people who constantly get screwed either buying or selling. I did get my fuel pump from E-Gay via a friend, but the a$$hole seller didn't respond to an e-mail inquiry of mine.

Try and bolt it down to point of them tryign to take the radio they have to make noise like hell. I had a technician ffrom one of those placees with two bolts and now its gone in and out a few minutes. Yeah whas the big need for the remotes just stick your hand and turn. I had a kenwood was satelite ready got it for 115.00 single disc input nothing to fold down or open to insret a disc. You wanna avoid those its a PITA to be opening and closing for one disc

Damn. Typing is a bitch for you [&:] I managed to make some sense out of your description of the radios with the motorized faceplate. Yes, I hate them as well.

Didn't see a new post button so I'm adding on to this thread. I have a '99 Ram Quad 5.9 with Infinity system, I love the system, but now the passenger door 6x9 doesn't work. I don't know if it's the speaker or the radio. Any suggestions? If it is the speaker do I need to replace all or do they sell a reasonably priced replacement? There are quite a few wires going to that speaker (about 6 if I recall correctly).

Thanks for any help.

The new post button is on the main page for each section....but anyway. If the amp is done for you will either have to get a new speaker whitch is expensive or buy an aftermarket and re-wire the front speakers.
