STEERING COLUMN BOUNCE???
ok guys....have awierd problem here....when i am driving my truck,i hear like a bounce in the steering column. its hard to explain what it sounds like but it seems like you have to be movin and it sounds like a bounce....i dont have to be turnin or anything for it tomake this noise and its not a clunk or anything...just seems like anoise that a shock might make or something.it has been doin this since i bought the truck two years ago but i just never did anything about it caus it wasnt causing any problems...now it is just getting aggravating...lol
I had this problem for about a month, then one day while turning to get on the highway I heard a loud clunk and something hitting the bottom of the truck. Drove home and got to looking and the drivers side shock had broke off. Only the bottom mount was left. I did notice the bounce was gone on the way home. Figured that the top nut had come off the shock at some point so shock was loose causing bumping noise. Haven't had it since replacing the shocks. Might want to just check that all the shock bolts are tight in case you haven't done that yet. Just an idea. Jeff.
Start isolating the noise. If it is in the steering column, it could be the joint in the intermediate shaft. It could also be up at the firewall and be a bad bearing that needs to be replaced.
