This was one of the symptoms that my truck used to have too. Since I replaced the steering gear box that sound is gone too.

I had this problem for about a month, then one day while turning to get on the highway I heard a loud clunk and something hitting the bottom of the truck. Drove home and got to looking and the drivers side shock had broke off. Only the bottom mount was left. I did notice the bounce was gone on the way home. Figured that the top nut had come off the shock at some point so shock was loose causing bumping noise. Haven't had it since replacing the shocks. Might want to just check that all the shock bolts are tight in case you haven't done that yet. Just an idea. Jeff.

Start isolating the noise. If it is in the steering column, it could be the joint in the intermediate shaft. It could also be up at the firewall and be a bad bearing that needs to be replaced.
