Default 4X4problems

the 4 wheel drive on my 2001 Ram won't stay locked in, it will hold for a bit but then wil dis-enguage
and try to re-enguage and then dis-enguage. it is not making any aweful noises or anything like that and you can feel it pulling when it is in 4 high. Hope sombody has had a similar problem and can tell me what to fix

I agree the vacuum lines could be cracked or the diaphram in the vacuum solenoid could have a hole in it. Both jobs fairly easy. Mine was the diaphramhole.

Someone said in another thread that the vacuum line assy was $30 from the dealer- maybe someone else can enlighten us on the vacuum diaphram price$?

I don't believe you can just replace the diaphram alone. You have to change the whole unit.

This sounds more like a slow leak in the vacuum system than a messed up diaphragm. Does the throttle position have any effect on the problem? IIRC ... there's a check valve on one of the lines above the xfer case. Might be a good place to start.
