Default Paint

I was thinking about using that rubberized paint or the por 15 stuff (w/e rust unhibitor is available) for the underbody of my truck. I wanted to know if i could do the driveshafts too, or would this throw off the balance of them? Also, anyone who has done this to the underbody of their truck, how did it hold up, and did you sand it to get the surface rust off first? What do you recommend?

Thanks

Never coat the driveshafts with anything. Yes ... balance and vibration issues.

Ive got POR15 on my frame from the firewall forward (last year). Ill be starting on the frame from firewall back in the next week or so. I used a couple scrapers, few cans of brake cleaner, wire brushes, scotch brite pads in various coarseness to clean my frame off. Lots of carboard under itwill help make clean up a bit easier after. Angle grinder, file and emery clothe to smooth out anything that was too rough.POR15 is suppose to bond to rust. I didnt have any on mineother than asmall patch of surface rust where I got carried away with enginegunk last year. As you paint your frame, you find you have to go farther and farther cause suspension parts look like crap next to clean painted frame after. Spring cups power steering box and a few other things needed paint to keep things looking uniform.
My 96 will never see gravelor dirt roads so Im not theone to ask how it holds up

how much does that stuff cost per can anyways? i been thinkin about doing it because my friend got it done to his Bronco and it looks incredible..... he got a good deal on it though he had it done for < 300 bucks i think....... so if its a PITA to sand all that stuff and then spray it all done layin on your back, i might just pay to have it done. it really looks awesome after its done.

(ive felt dumb for thinkin outloud before but i feel really dumb thinking to myself while typing on DF)

Muddy
I paid $45(Cdn) for a quart of POR15 so maybe $35-40 state side?
Never seen a can a paint sealed like that, PITA just to get into it. Never seen paint labeled with extreme warnings on handling it either. They wanted you to have full eye and skin protection if you brush it on and respirator as wellif you spray it.
I didnt spray it cause I was a bit concerned with gunking up my spray guns and dont have a respirator. I usually spray outside (hang from clothes line or on patio table).

Took a while to brush it on and I gave it2 coats. Under side as you guess is a real PITA. Im sure it would look better sprayed but still looks very good brushed on. Like an enamel paint so it tends to settle in and level out.

Frame rails and power steering box look like crap and taking pics I was always trying to shoot around them.
