Default Lack of Power

I have a '94 RAM2500, 5.9L, 4x4 plain jane truckbut do have a K&N filter and recent tune-up. Towing only 4000 pounds I could hardly get over the pass last weekend. It has A littleblack smoke out the backwith the pedal to the floor, it is just gutless under this load. Truck runslike a topotherwise. I can't believe a stock 360 should be so lame. Timing is fixed can't change that. Any ideas?

Sounds like you're running rich. Try cleaning up the throttle body and the O2 sensors. While you have the TB off ... look for oil pooling in the bottom of the intake manifold.

My cat just recently was bad, just put the new one on today actually... my truck would really feel doggy with any extra load (I towed about 3000 lbs a bit with it like this) and mine was also smoking black... I replaced the cat, reset the computer and put like 100 miles on it and its running great and no black smoke.

Sounds crazy, but I had a problem similar to that and a product called Seafoam helped a lot. Just pour it in the tank with the gas

My Cat does rattle ever since I got the truck 2 yrs ago, I wonder if it is partially plugged up, that would limit the airflow. Thanks for the ideas.
