now what
I had never had a pinging problem until about a month ago. I changed out my plugs to a cooler one and still had the pinging. The plugs I took out had a funny red color on the ceramic, I posted a pic here and got replies that it was probably additives in the gas. I happened to get gas at a different gas station (brand) and the pinging went away. I have since discovered that if I buy Shell or BP I have no pinging. 87 octane. You might try switching brands of gas and see if it helps you also.....
Ok I did a tune up and still have the problem I have switched gas stations even tried 93 octane again is there a sensor that could be bad? I have heard of a knock sensor some where do these trucks have one and is there a test for it?
just an update the dealership said the o2 sensors were bad so they replaced them saturday drove the truck to work and still pinging away but only after it gets warmed up and only when accelerating over 45 mph. I just called the dealer again and they have no ideas for me. Anyone else have any sugestions?
Yeah tell them you have a suggestion. Then suggest that if they can't figure out what the hell is wrong with their own motor design and fix it for you then they'll drop a brand new one in your truck free of charge, and apologize for the inconvienince.
