evap codes
Hi everyone,
I had two evap codes....I forget what they were off-hand, butone was the small leak, and the other was the gross leak. Well I checked all of the vacuum lines...found the line going from the leak detection pumpto the filter was split. (Probably when I move everything around for the cold air intake). So, I cut about an inch off of each end, and just to be safe I stole the gas capoff of my wife's '06 caravan.
I got the codes Thursday night, didn't drive the truck on Friday, fixed the hose and stole the cap on Saturday. Sunday I went out to clear the codes, but the CEL had gone out on its own. Is this normal? I though you either had to clear the codes with a programmer, battery disconnect, of start the motor a million and a half time before they go out on their own. I'm justwondering if some codes clear themselves out quicker than others?
Thanks

usually the code will stick around if the problem persists. if the problem was fixed and then the car was started up it will either still keep the light on and just be a done code or it will go out. i had a misfire code when i sucked in some water one time and that just went out after awhile of pumping the water out. your tuner might have taken care of the code if you used it after you did the repair
i've been running around with a gas cap evap code but it's been a done code so i don't worry about it. just check it every now and then. i just don't want to reset the radio stations.......... heh.

Just as a follow-up to my post, it has been a week and a half since I fixed the hose and stole my wife's gascap. Last night, the '06 caravan let me know that it was indeed the gascap. It didn't put on a CEL, but it actually spells GASCAP in the odometer. I thought itwas pretty neat that thecaravan and probably all later model vehicles know whenthe gascap is not quite right. Now I have to tell my wife she needs to buy a gascap : )
