Installed Flex-a-Lite Fans and Air Cleaner
Hey guys and gals, I finally installed my Dual electric Flex-a-Lite fan prt#295 this weekend. The hardest part was finding a mounting spot. Due to me having a 3" body lift the fans had to sit lower on the radiator thus I was not able to mount them in the locations specified in the directions. But with some minor mods I was able to get it mounted. The next challenge was finding a mounting spot for the coolant over flow bottle and winshield washer reservior. The washer bottle had a leak somewhere near the float sensor so I have to replace it. Then the final challenges was to find a switched hot fuse under the hood. I couldn't find one so I ran the wire thru the firewall rubber grommet and tapped into the fuse box in the cab. And lastly finding the hot wire for the A/C clutch ( which on mine was the black/white wire). After all was said and done I finally got everything going, now I have to fine the correct "on temp"adjustment because this fan set up has an adjustable thermostat.
The next project was installing the MOPAR round style air cleaner I've been reading about ( see the K&N FIPK No more post). And as it was stated the hardest part was bending that rod that the wing nut screws on to keep it in place. The one that comes with the kit was long enough but I suggest heating it up a bit before bending it. It looks great and I filled up with gas this am to see if there's a change in the mileage. I recently changed my oil and filter ( Royal Purple) and both diffs ( Royal Purple Max Gear). I didn't have the clearance probs everyone was having installing the air cleaner due to the body lift. I have been getting 13.5 - 14 mpg's hwy. I drive an avg of 100 miles round trip every day to work and home at 70mph. I will update you on the performance if interested. It's also getting hotter down here in South Texas so I will see if the heat will affect the air cleaner setup. Well just wanted to pass that along.

looks like you drive as much as i do for work, and just as fast. I've been averaging 11 MPG and everything is stock so far. Keep us updated on what you ebnd up gaining or loossing . I looking into doing the same thing to my truck. BTW we have the same truck but mines red and that makes it a little faster. Just ask any cop.

Well I was getting that gas mileage BEFORE these latest mods I'm just hoping it improves it. I had an 02 Ford Mustang GT that was rated at a measly 260hp at the flywheel. When I was finished with it I was at 350hp at the rear wheels and still getting 26mpg hwy at 75mph. I'm hoping to duplicate that with this truck. I'm still going to upgrade the exhaust with headers but there's still this raging debate on whether or not to true dual it or not, a single 3" exhaust vs 2 21/2", etc.etc.etc. The only constant I've seen so far is headers and a Magna free flow cat. But I'll update you on it.
