Default installing distributor

the truck is a 1997 ram 1500 4x4 5.2L it lost complete power on the way to work. and i was having ignition problems before this and figured the timing chain had jumped so i went ahead and replaced it the marks all lined up at TDC but it still ran the same way. so i checked the distributor and the rotor was pointing directly to the driver side fender instead of the number 1 cylinder like it is suppose to. i can't get the rotor to point at the cylinder all it does is point to the driver side or 180 to the pass. side. whats the deal how do i make it right. what could be wrong.

can really use all the help i can get.

Chris

Default RE: installing distributor

If you want to install the distributor so it points to #1 ......Rotate the cam gear to 12 o'clock and use a straight edge to make sure the timing marks are perfectly straight....then you can drop the distributor in and makes sure it lines up to #1..............where the ditributor ispointing when the cam gear is at 6 o'clock is #6 cylinder like it is supposed to be so either way you will be fine.....but the write up listed above is right on the money also...........Good luck!
