Dutch - Again I live in the communist state of maryland that has strict emissions testing that you have to do every year. You can't core it and get away with it here. Now in my home state of Ohio - hell yeah!

Well, it was the CAT. Couldnt really tell any difference in temp w/ my IR Thermometer. Took it to Midas and had an exhaust test done. CAT was bad and they wanted $1100 to change it. Got a Flowmaster Cat for $230 (direct fit); about 8 hours to get the output pipe out of the exhaust input. Truck is a 1998 and still had the factory exhaust on it. Nine years of driving had those pipes welded. Got a torch with MAPP gas and heated the pipe to glowing red. Put 2 clamps on the pipe - one facing down and the other facing up. Little tapping with a hammer and it was in. Got some new header bolts and after about an hour of adjusting, the new CAT was in. Was definitely worth NOT paying $1100 to Midas to put some off brand POS on!

Oh yeah, Midas does FREE exhaust checks for those who are cheap like me and dont like wasting money.

Exhaust check - Free at Midas
Sunburn on legs - Free from the sun
CAT - $230 from parts store
Sweat from work - Free from me

Knowing that my truck is fixed and the work is done right - Priceless

same thing happend to me...does it happen when it warms only if so it most likely a sensor..the only 2 sensors that would effect those codes are the Crank position sensor and Camshaft position sensor..does your truck die on you at all? if so than most likely Crank positon sensor...if the truck idles fine and dosent die..than most likely Cam position sensor...but before any of that..does your exhaust sound muffled? get under there and bang the CAT a little with a hammer or something hard..if you hear rattling than thats your problem ( Clogged CAT) ...hope this helps

truck never died on me, just ran like crap and sounded and felt like a 4 cyl motor! It was the CAT and it is all good now. Gas mileage is up, power is up. Life is Good.
