Default transfer case problems

I had my truck in the shop to get the front end looked at, and $490 later for u-joints on the axle and some other odds and ends they called me back and informed me that the problems that i have bveen having with my 4wd were not with the front end. I was informed that my transfercase had devveloped a leak from the rear output seal and that it was completely dry. the mechanic said that it was too far gone to rebuild, that i would need to get a new transfer case put in if I want to get it into 4wd, but that it will still work in 2wd. They quoted me $900 for a used transfer case and $300 to put it in. does this sound about right to you guys? its a 2001 quad cab long bed with the 5.9.

The front U joints almost sounds like a deal, double cardon u joints are a pain in the *** and wicked expencive. The T case is prb shot, thats a decent price.

thanks for the info, I talked to my guy at the shop today when I picked it up and he said that they may be able to replace the chain and press in new bearings. But only time will tell how much this is going to cost.
