Default A/C Help

Okay guys and gals.....My A/C blows air just like my vents...so I got me some r-134a to re fill it..anyways I hooked up the guage and it cycles up to 40-45 and then back to low when it sounds like the pump kicks off or starts..IDK....I was wondering do I need to fill or is my pump shot?

Confusing post! By the a/c blowing just like the vents, I assume you mean no cold air just ambient temperature. Is the gauge one of those on the cans of refrigerant or a manifold gauge set? Don't trust those can setups. At any rate, disconnect the low pressure switch on top of the accumulator and jump the connector with a small wire. The compressor (pump?) should engage and stay on. Then read the gauge. You really need to know the hi side pressure too to get an accurate picture of what's going on though. Add a can of refrigerant and also get a dye test kit as you most likely have a leak if you need to put in refrigerant. Let me know what you get.

Default RE: A/C Help

I believe I'm having a similar problem, on my 2001 5.9L 1500. The A/C just blows air at an ambient termperature. When I turn the dial on the dash to A/C, I can hear thevacume linechange the blower mode, so it sounds likethat's working.I checked the system and it only needed a litle more refridgerant, so I added that and the compressor and clutch are working properly, cycling on and off in the appropriate range. However, none of the A/C lines get cold, and the condenser, in front of the radiator, never seems to get hot or warm.

Am I right in assuming that the coolant just isn't circulating? If so, what makes it circulate? I had always assumed that the compressor did this. What should I do from here? Any help or ideas would me much appreciated. 90degree weather and black leather without A/C is getting old quick.

Little Toy,
If you jump the switch like I mentioned above, the compressor won't cycle at all. If all else is working OK the compressor should stay on when jumped. If it does and there still is no cooling you are probably still low on refrigerant. It needs to be at least 1/2 charge (16oz) to start blowing cold. With the compressor running constantly, check/feel the evap. inlet and outlet. With a low charge, the outlet may start to frost. If so, you're still low on charge. Try another 1/2 of a 12oz can and some dye as you most likely have a leak somewhere. Do you have or have access to a manifold ga. set? Could really use some numbers to get an accurate idea of what's going on. And yes, the compressor is what makes the juice go 'round.
Let me know what you find.
