here's the whole story. https://dodgeforum.com/m_831453/tm.htm
1. i change it about once a year, front and rear, mostly just to check for water, which i tend to get in the front, but don't get in the rear (milky white in oil). if you drive through water/mud, its possible to get water in, which is real bad over time. if you never drive in water, you may not need it but every 50-60-100k or even never.
2. about 2 to 2 1/2 qts
3. take off the cover, clean out any sludge around the magnet.
4. vavoline 80w90 or 85w90 GL-5.
5. visual inspection. sit and stare in amazement at the whole concept of the differential. check air in spare, check brakes, sometimes rotate tires, sometimes have a beer or two.

1. I changed mine for the first time at 82k miles
2. Your owners manual will give you that info
3. Un bolt it and let it drain. Scrape off the old gasket with a razorblade. You can ethier get a new gasket ( costs 20 bucks and NAPA has to order it) or you can get something called mopar gasket sealer/ sillicone. THe stuff is awesome and 3 bucks a tube.
4. I used royal purple 75w-140 i think .Wasn't cheap I'll tell ya that
5. Admire how the read end works.

Wow, when went to NAPA here they told me 20 and it'd take a week. I thought that was insane for the gasket. So I asked the parts guy at my dealership (its a GM dealersip but we have the Jeep brand so we carry mopar stuff) and he pointed me to the sillicone.

I heard good things about it. That was the one thing I did buy from NAPA. So far it seems to be good. Between that and Valvoline ATF 4 synthetic tranny fluid, I gained 1 mpg on the highway.
