Default 96 1/2ton tires

I have a 96 1/2 ton 2WD with 245/75/16 tires on. Manufacture state's this is the largest tire recommended for this truck. Hope someone can give me some advice to help fill the wheel wells up as I'm ready to buy new tire's and have plenty of space. I do tow a 19ft camper and still have alota room. Any suggestions. Thanks

Default RE: 96 1/2ton tires

265/75r16 will easily fit, and 285/75r16 will probably fit with the possibility of some minor rubbing at full turn. The larger size will hurt your towing ability, and your everyday mileage. Find out what axle gears you have. If you have 3.92:1 (something like that) you can get away with 265's. If you have 3.55:1 (most likely) you should stay with the 245's, or regear the axles to match your new tire size.

I'm running 285's on my '97 3/4 ton, and noticed a big difference with mileage and pulling power. I'm regearing to 4.10's very soon. Already have the gears, just don't have time to install them.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
